Requirement is the same as in regular programme. For NCE must possess the SSCE/WASC/GCE/O’Level passes in 5 subjects including English Language and Mathematics. Three (3) of which must be at credit level at the same sitting or 4 credits at two sittings. At least, two of the credits must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer. Candidates with Grade II Teachers Certificate (TCII) with credit or merits in three subjects, two of which must be relevant to the course the candidate wishes to offer, may also apply.
The PDE is designed specifically for teachers and candidates without teaching qualifications, ranging from National Diploma to Ph.D or their equivalent. The PDE embodies the flexibility, richness in pedagogical content, provision for specialization etc. which have current national and international concerns. A candidate who has successfully undergone the Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) is qualified to pursue Masters Degree in Education (M.Ed)

Sandwich Programme runs for four (4) years for NCE Programme, while the PDE and Pre-NCE runs for 2 years and 1 year respectively.

NOTE: Continuing Education Programme is a Saturday programme which allows those currently working to upgrade their academic qualifications while keeping their jobs.
The Professional Diploma in Education (PDE) Programme was introduced in 2009 but did not kick off smoothly from the former Teachers Training College (TTC) Programme to Professional Diploma in Education, but the PDE Programme officially started in Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze in 2010 with Dr Martins-Umeh, N.F as the first Director/Coordinator from 2010 – 2013. Dr. S.C. Unigwe was the second substantive Director/Coordinator from 2013 – 2015 and in 2015 academic session Dr S.C. Ezeh took over as the third Director/Coordinator of PDE. In December 2017, Dr. Udegbe G. I. was appointed Coordinator PDE/TRCN for the 2017/2018 academic session.
In 2009 and 2010 sessions the newly introduced PDE programme inherited nine (9) and fifteen (15) students respectively from the former TTC while in 2011, PDE Students were 39. The population increased to 41 in 2012, and then in 2013 they were 31. In 2014, they were 39 students while in 2015/2016 they are 48 in number. The programme has been accredited by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria and it is a full year calendar programme of two semesters.
The PDE is developed along current trends in quality teacher education and that of specialization. The features of the PDE therefore include, among others;
It is based on and allows specialization;
It promotes professionalism through specialization;
It allows flexibility both of time and location;
It will locate teacher education in states and be more cost-effective;
It will raise the level of state participation in teacher education;
It will fast-track the production of more teachers critically required for the Nigerian Education system.
It allows TRCN to intervene to ensure that teachers in professional field (e.g. those in Nursing, Legal, and Military etc. Education) attain the necessary pedagogical standards.
It will raise the quality of teachers and consequently or instruction,
It can be used as both pre – service and in – service teacher training/re-training curriculum.
The degree programme in affiliation with Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, for the award of Bachelors Degree in Education took off in the 2011/2012 academic session with 901 students admitted under the direct entry and UTME admission platforms.

The Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) accreditation team of 2011 granted full accreditation to all the programmes in the light of the massive human and material infrastructure deployed for the programme. In the 2014/2015 academic session, Physics and Computer Education were added to the programme, bringing it to a total of thirteen (13) courses; with a current student population of one thousand, seven hundred and nine (1709) distributed along the course areas.

DIRECT ENTRY: Possession of NCE. OND, Diploma (UNIZIK only) in relevant areas in addition to O’level credit passes in English Language, Mathematics and any other three (3) subjects relevant to the course of study.
Regular is three (3) years for direct entry and four (4) years for UMTE/JAMB entry.
Applicants must write the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination and attain an acceptable standard in the use of English (compulsory) and three subjects relevant to the proposed course of study.

• For Candidates transiting from college organized Pre-NCE program, a cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 is required for absorption into direct NCE Agricultural Education Program.
• Associate Ship Certificate in Education awarded by an approved institution in Nigeria or abroad is also acceptable as qualification.

Candidates must possess WASC/SSCE/NECO/GCE ‘a’ level with a minimum of three (3) credits and two (2) passes including English in not more than two (2) sittings OR TC II with minimum of three (3) credits/merits in relevant area and some passes including English language.
Note: Students awaiting SSCE, NECO, OR NABTEB 2016 are free to apply for admission into Pre-NCE programme.
The Pre-NCE programme is specially designed to provide intensive academic preparation (teaching) to all the students who need to improve their performances in JAMB/UTME and WASC/ SSCE/NECO/GCE ‘a’ level. The programme would also prepare students for admission into NCE or Degree programme of the college.
Candidates wishing to do the programme in any of the areas listed above should purchase the admission form from admissions’ office with Bursary Receipt.
Students are to pay the sum of #3,000 through Platform Remita Online from the College Revenue Unit, any Bank/Micro Finance Bank or Cyber Cafe.
(a) Students shall visit the Revenue Unit of the College, any Bank or Cyber Cafe for the generation of Remita Retrieval Receipt (RRR).
(b) The printed Remita Retrieval Receipt Invoice will be taken to any Bank for payment.
(c) The Teller and Bank print out with the printed Remita Retrieval Receipt shall be taken to Bursary for issuance of College Receipt.
(d) The Receipt issued by the Bursary department shall then be taken to admission Office for the collection of forms.
Pre-NCE programme run for one (1) academic session. Return of Completed Form: All completed forms must be returned and should contain: One photocopy of original cash receipt of purchase of admission form Two recent passport size photographs Photocopies of credentials Three self addressed stamp official envelopes One bag envelop.
Note: Each Academic session starts from July and ends on March each year. All Pre-NCE students are also required to sit for UTME or any other prescribe examination and Score a minimum National cut-off point in order to be absorbed into the NCE or Degree programmes of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze.
