Library

The College Library services come under the College Librarian. The Library known as Prof. Ben Nwabueze Library which started in May, 1990 is located at the permanent site of the College. It has a Virtual Library section powered by e-granary and has about 10million books and journals with an online integrated capacity.

THE OBJECTIVES OF THE LIBRARY

The objective of the Library is to serve as a centre of educational research. In specific terms,

  1. To provide extensive materials (books, visual and audio-visual materials) for study, teaching and research for the benefit of the students and staff of the College as well as other accredited persons.
  2. To inculcate reading and other library habits in the students through general formal instruction in GSE112.
  • To preserve the Library materials for future use.
  1. To provide adequate reading space and other Library services to the Library users.

VARIOUS DEPARTMENTS

The College Library is organized under the following departments:

Administration: Responsible for day-to-day running of the Library and for ensuring the achievement of the objectives of the Library.

Acquisition: Responsible for the selection, ordering and receipt of books and selected materials.

Cataloguing: Responsible for the cataloguing, classification of books and other related materials.

Serial/Documents/Archives: Responsible for the receipt, recording, display and storage of periodicals, newspapers and related publications as well as other special documents and circulation of the materials.

Public Service: Responsible for reference work and the circulation of Library materials.

Bindery and Reprographic Services: The College Library now operates full bindery and reprographic services. The bindery is modem and takes care of both Library and other approved materials. There is also state-of-the-art photocopying machine that undertakes reprographic services for both staff and students.

Library Complex and Virtual Library: The Library Complex and the Virtual Library located at Campus I are functional. The Virtual Library has two segments which can be accessed electronically. One of the segments is the Granary which has over ten million educational resources. The green stone is another segment where the Library is expected to build and showcase its resources.

LIBRARY SERVICES

The College Library provides the following services to its readers:

Lending services including inter-library loan service.

Reference service.

Reading room service.

Reserve reading service.

Reprographic (photocopying) service.

Current awareness service.

Selective dissemination of information.

Indexing and abstracting service.

Accession lists are published periodically.

RULES AND REGULATIONS OF THE COLLEGE LIBRARY

  1. Any student wishing to use the library will first fill in a regulation card at the lending counter, undertaken to observe the Library regulations. Regulation is valid for the current academic year only and must be renewed thereafter- The borrower’s tickets issued at registration are non-transferable.
  2. Most books may be borrowed for a period of four weeks. Renewal for further four weeks is allowed, if other readers do not require the books. After this renewal, the book must be returned.
  • Fines are levied on all overdue books at the rate of NW (ten Naira) per working day per book.
  1. Students may not have more than two books on loan at any time.
  2. Books must not be written on, marked, underlined, cut or damaged in anyway.
  3. Students are required to pay full replacement value of lost or badly damaged books.
  • All Library books being removed from the Library must be properly borrowed, failure to do this will lead to severe disciplinary action.
  • All students leaving the library carrying books or papers must submit to check by porter at the entrance to the Library.
  1. Orderly conduct must be observed in and around the Library. Strict silence must be preserved in the reading rooms.
  2. Food should not be taken into the Library.
  3. Smoking is not allowed in reading rooms.
  • Brief cases, umbrellas and other baggage must be left at the Library entrance or places provided for them in the Library.
  • Students should not wear hard shoes to avoid distraction of readers.

Vacation Period

Monday  –  Friday               =               8.00 a.m. – 4.00 p.m.

Saturday/Sunday                =               Library closed.
