The Research and Conferences/Publication was set up as a Unit under the office of the pioneer Provost of the College in 1997. In 1998 the college launched the first edition of the Journal of technical Education Research and Development. Journal of the Federal College of Education (Technical) Umunze. Under the Editorship of Dr. S.C Eyibe ftwan.
The aim of the journal is to raise critical issues in technical/technological education in Nigeria. The second aim is to bring new insight and suggestions for improving practices at various levels based on research and experience. The third aim is to provide the dissemination of practical and useful innovative practices for replication as appropriate.
The objectives of the journal are six folds. First, the objective in launching the journal is not merely to have a college journal but essentially to meet the needs of an individualizing society and of widening public participation in technical and technological education and planning. The second objective is to channel our abundant human and material resources in our society to create awareness through management by objective (MBO) and over and above the concept of trial and error or merely keeping busy.
The third objective is to encourage the integration of native intelligence in solving local problems by accepting written opinions from all classes of people. The fourth objective is to discourage the problem of inertia in writing so that more people will write and publish. The fift objective is to emphasize the need for writing and carrying out research on environmental issues so as to publish the much need textbooks with indigenous flavor.
The six objective is to help disseminate new and innovative ideas for the development and improvement of technical/technological education in the service of our economic and social transformation. Clearly, then, our focus is on practicability and utility through practical and theoretical approaches to national and international issues on technical and vocational education.
To achieve the above aims and objectives, our able and action Provost, Prof. J.O Ogbuagu set up an eight-man committee on Research and Conferences/Seminars and Workshops under the chairmanship of Dr. S.C Eyibe and charged with the following terms of references:
1. To search for good and adequate topics on conferences/workshops and present to management for consideration and approval.
2. To plan and organize regular conferences/workshops in the College.
3. To search for good and adequate Research/Project topics for staff (academic/Non academic) and students, publish and advise them to carry out researches on the topics for quality assurance in their lecture delivery and career progressions.
4. To scrutinize applications for conference sponsorships of staff, considering their areas of specialization and present to management for consideration and final approval.
5. To present any useful information/suggestions that would develop the flare for research generally in the lives of staff and students for self/public development.
