The Department of Accounting Education of the School of Business Education of the College on Friday, January 31, 2025 held its inaugural Alumni Homecoming.
The event celebrated the department’s distinguished graduates and marked the launch of the Accounting Education Students Alumni Association.
The event held at the College’s 1000-Capacity Building main campus attracted an impressive gathering of alumni, scholars, government officials, and students.
Declaring the event open, the Provost, Prof. Tessy Okoli, represented by the Deputy Provost, Dr. ThankGod Nzeribe and the College Librarian, Dr Samson Agada, commended the department for producing graduates who have made significant contributions in academia, industry , public service, business sector and entrepreneurship. According to her, the college alumni members are the greatest assets that transmit the values of resilience, hardwork, integrity and innovation to the larger society.
She further reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining high educational and professional standards.
Earlier in his opening remarks, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Churchill Okonkwo represented by Comrade Chidi Uzor, Dean, School of Fine and Applied Arts, described the gathering as a reunion, according to him, it is a testament to the enduring legacy of excellence, innovation, and mentorship that defines the department.
He stated that the alumni are a living proof that the education and experiences gained in the department extend far beyond the classroom, shaping industries, communities, and future generations.
Prof. Chioma Ikeanyionwu, Head of the Accounting Education Department, described the occasion as a milestone, highlighting the department’s progress and urging current students to learn from alumni experiences.
According to Prof Ikeanyionwu, many of their ex-students have become renowned experts in auditing, taxation and financial management, while others have distinguished themselves in the field of accounting education, producing research that has impacted policy and practices across the globe.
The guest speaker, Dr. Ralph Okeke, emphasized the importance of alumni engagement in institutional development, citing global examples.
Igwe Clifford Okeke (Ezeudo of Nawfija), the Royal Father of the Day, reaffirmed his continued support for the College.
The high point of the event was presentation of award to outstanding individuals and was anchored by the Dean, School of Business Education, Dr Ochuba Chinedu. The awardees were; Chief Valentine Ozigbo, former Anambra governorship candidate, Hon. Rome Ibekwe, and Chief Okwudili Innocent Nwosu, CEO Love Bite beverages and the Fontis Aid Foundation also presented prizes to academically exceptional students.
The Accounting Education Department’s maiden Alumni Homecoming was a resounding success, fostering a sense of community and reconnecting alumni with their alma mater.
