PROFESSOR JOSEPHAT OKECHUKWU OGBUAGU, mni

Ogbuagu Josephat Okechukwu started his educational carrier at the Umuowelle Primary School Agulu (1971-1976). He excelled in his West African School Certificate emerging one of the best results in the 1981 set at Bubendorf Memorial Grammar School (B.M.G.S.) Adazi, Anambra State. Fresh from the excellent WAEC results in 1981, he gained admission same year into the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka, UNN, to study Chemistry. Having obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) (HONS) in Pure Chemistry in 1985, he participated in the compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Zuru in the then Sokoto State (now Kebbi State) during the 1985/1986 service year. After his primary assignment at the Government Day Secondary School and later the College of Agriculture, Zuru, in the former Sokoto state, he was offered appointment in the latter.He went back to his Alma Matta, Department of Pure and Industrial Chemistry,UNN, and obtained a Master of Science (M.Sc.) in analytical Chemistry in 1992 and later joined the University as a Research Fellow at the National Centre for Energy Research and Development of the University with a parallel appointment as a lecturer in his Department, Pure and Industrial Chemistry of the same University. In 1994, he joined the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, as a staff where he rose to the rank of Professor of Chemistry in 2006.Professor Josephat Okechukwu Ogbuagu has published over eighty (80) journal articles in both local and international journals and contributed to five (5) textbooks.He has participated in several training workshops/conferences in Nigeria and abroad including the G8-UNESCO World Forum on Education, Scientific Research and Innovation: New Partnership for Sustainable Development, held at Trieste, Italy in 2007; Earth Systems Science Course in Watersheds and Coastal Zone Simulation, Trieste, Italy, in the year 2000.Prof. J. O. Ogbuagu was among the few Nigerian experts who participated in the Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and Human Resources Development (HRD) Workshop for Nigerian Experts held at the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training, KRIVET, in South Korea in August 2010.In 2011, he participated in the “Tertiary Institutions Top Executives and Stakeholders Programme at Puri Pujangga, Universiti, Kebangsaan, Malaysia.A former Head and later Co-ordinator, Production Technology Department, he was the pioneer head of the Department of Polymer and Textile Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Technology of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, former Chairman of the University Bookshop and pioneer Chairman of the Parents Teachers Council of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, High School, Awka.Currently, listed in numerous biographical reference books including the Marquis who is who in the world, the Marquis who is who in Science and Engineering and the Contemporary who’s who of Professionals.Professor J.O. Professor J. O. He has also won the ‘distinguished chemist” award from the Chemical Society of Nigeria, Anambra State Chapter and the South-East Region of the Students’ Chemical Society.The Senior Staff Union in Colleges of Education (SSUCOEN) in December 2011 further recognized the outstanding contributions of Prof. J.O. Ogbuagu for which the COASU noticed earlier and awarded him the “Pillar of Support to SSUCOEN. In 2012, Prof. J. O. Ogbuagu was honoured with the “Labour Friendly Provost”award by the South-East Zone of Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) and the national body of the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) on 13thMarch, 2013 also awarded Professor J.O.
