The Provost Federal College of Education (Technical), Umunze, Anambra State, Prof Josephat Ogbuagu, mni, has reiterated his vision to make the only Technical College of Education established in the South East Geopolitical zone the best in the country. The dream, he said, is achievable if the staff and students share and support his vision.
Speaking during an interactive session with the Students recently at the College Multipurpose Hall, Ogbuagu, a Professor of Industrial Chemistry, said his administration had recorded tremendous progress in the College, while begging for more supports from the students.
He further called on the students to refrain from excessive patronage of some social networks which according to him are major distractions to students’ commitment to study hard and make good results in their exams.
He urged the students to resist any temptation of involving themselves in anti-social behaviours and warned them against indecent dressing, cheating and exam malpractices stressing that the College will not hesitate to deal decisively with all offenders and the consequences of these vices is expulsion. His words: “we shall not hesitate to expel any student whose behavior does not conform to the acceptance norms of this College”.
He assured the students that the College will not renege in her duty to offer them the needed support to enable them actualize their dreams and aspirations. He however urged them to make their own input, stating that “to whom much is given, much is also expected”.
Prof Ogbuagu explained that some students are no longer paying attention to their course of studies but rather to some of this disgusting social networks and also using the time meant for them to read their books to engage in these networks, adding that the only way to succeed academically is by studying hard, doing assignment as well as being punctual to school.
He declared that at the end of every academic session, scholarship will be awarded to overall best students of the College.
He reminded the students that “the College is a place where people are trained in moral, character, learning, hard work and commitment. It is to meet these felt needs and narrow existing gaps that my administration had decided to elevate the College to Degree awarding status by affiliating to Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka and had continued to widen the College academic programmes as a concrete demonstration of our effort to liberalize and increase our educational opportunities for all who have the intellectual potentials to be admitted”.
Responding on behalf the students, Comrade Ezeonyedika Raphael thanked the Provost of the College and his Management team for bringing out time to come and interact with students thereby listening to their problems/challenges. He pledged on behalf of the students to be law abiding and further expressed optimism that the gathering will go a long way in solving the students’ problems.
